About the show

Heartland is a Canadian drama television series based on the book series written by Lauren Brooke. The plot is set in Alberta, Canada and follows the life of one family as they take care of a large horse ranch. The series originally premiered in October of 2007 and has had a successful 9-season run. Heartland Season 9 premiered on CBC on October 4, 2015.

Amy and Lou’s Fleming mother was a wonderful woman, whose dream was to use her family business to take care of abused and neglected horses. Unfortunately, she was killed in a car accident and that dream was meant to be carried out by the living members of her family. When she was only 15, Amy (Amber Marshall) discovered that she inherited her mother’s ability to feel what horses need and practice natural horsemanship, which sets the sisters’ decision to continue their mother’s legacy. Although there is some resistance from those who are just trying to live one day at a time, the sisters are able to pull through what life throws at them and keep a wonderful dream of helping injured animals alive.

Unfortunately, the American channel (Up TV) that held the rights to airing the series has decided to not pick it up for the current season and at this moment the current season is only airing on CBC. However, it is possible that the decision had nothing to do with the show’s popularity. In any case, it does not appear that the series is slowing down and we are sure to see Heartland Season 10 some time in the future.

UPDATED December 23, 2015: The first instalment of the current season of Heartland concluded airing on Canada’s CBC channel on December 6th. The highly-rated drama series is at the moment on a month-long holiday break. The remaining episodes of season 9 are expected to resume on CBC on January 10, 2016. For the US audience, after the UP channel finishes the broadcast of season 8, it won’t, unfortunately, pick up the drama series for another run.

UPDATED March 21, 2016: Just as millions of fans were still savoring the final episode of the ninth season of the universally acclaimed and award-winning Canadian family drama television show Heartland that was broadcast on March 20, 2016, the CBC network delivered very exciting news – the highly rated series has been officially renewed for another round. And the network is not planning to make the loyal fans of the show wait too long for new episodes: filming of the next installment is expected to start in May and a tenth chapter of the story is slated to hit the small screen in the fall of 2016.
