Summary and storyline
Created by Michael McGowan and starring Jennette McCurdy, Between is a Canadian science fiction teen drama television series that focuses on the lives of a group of teenagers who live in a town that is being threatened by a disease killing everyone over the age of twenty one years old. Between Season 1 premiered on City in Canada and Netflix in the U.S. on May 21, 2015, and the second season was released on June 30, 2016. In addition to City and Netflix, the series is also available for streaming on Shomi in Canada. Each of the seasons contains six episodes.
Pretty Lake is a nice quiet town that feels like home. There’s one small problem, however – a mysterious virus is killing everyone over the age of twenty one, creating a power vacuum and leaving only teenagers to cope with the day-to-day life and running the town. As the federal government quarantines the town, the remaining young people must fend for themselves and try to figure out what’s going on around them.
Poor reviews and renewal potential
Although Netflix tried to raise audience interest by releasing only one episode per week, this series did not receive the ratings the network hoped for. Even though the trick didn`t prove efficient, the second season will be released in the same manner. Critical reviews are largely negative, with some saying that the series is missing depth and tension and scores merely 22% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.7 out of 10 on IMDb. Viewers and critics are hoping that the current season picks up steam and is more compelling and intense that the freshman chapter, which garnered poor reviews.
