A new take on a classic
The New Adventures of Peter Pan is an all-new animated comedy and adventure series that premiered on June 5, 2016 on Discovery Family. The series is produced by DQ Entertainment, directed by Augusto Zanovelo and executive produced by Tapaas Chakravarti.
The show offers a new take on the classic characters and well-known stories from J.M. Barrie`s fairy tale. Peter Pan, Wendy, John, Michael, and other Lost Boys and Girls find themselves in various wonderful places that often prove to be more dangerous than they could have thought. It`s up to them to save Neverland from Captain Hook and his crew. This iteration of the magical island is a contemporary one – the series is set in the 21st century, and the Darlings are modern kids, with modern gadgets at hand - cell phones and laptops included. Peter Pan is played by an actor who is a bit older than the usual image of Peter Pan than most of us have in mind.
Ratings and renewal prospects
The latest installment on the list of Peter Pan adaptations currently holds a meager 4.7/10 IMDb rating, and averages approximately 60,000 viewers per episode. The future of the series looks foggy with such ratings, although it does deliver positive messages to its audience and offers a reasonable dose of classic-themed fun, even if it`s not particularly groundbreaking. The iconic characters are always fun to watch, even though there is less of the original Peter Pan story here than in preceding adaptations, the last of which has aired 20 years ago.
