About the series
Presented by Chris Harrison, The Bachelorette is an American reality television series in which twenty-five male suitors compete for the opportunity to date one love-seeking woman. A spin-off of The Bachelor, the series first aired 2003, was cancelled in 2004 and revived in 2008. The Bachelorette Season 12 premiered on ABC on May 23, 2016.
In this season, the producers put a new spin on the otherwise well-known concept. This season, not one woman is presented to the suitors, but two. Once introduced to the men, Britt Nilsson and Kaitlyn Bristowe had to undergo a vote that was to decide which one of them will stay and be the star of the show. Hoping to find the love that she deserves, the remaining young woman dates the suitors and eliminates them until only one remains. At the end of the series, the remaining young man may propose to the bachelorette or not. The current season sees the return of Jojo Fletcher, the broken-hearted woman who had to walk away from The Bachelor in the last season`s Final Rose episode after finding out that Ben has confessed that she just isn`t “the one”. And it is the same Jojo Fletcher who`s now chosen as the next bachelorette.
Current season, ratings and renewal chances
The Bachelorette series has spun off five international versions and quite a steady viewership base. Pulling in a total of 8.1 million viewers, season 11, nevertheless, has aired with a very low rating of 2.9 on IMDb. Season 12 has premiered to 6.63 million viewers, and the second episode was seen by 5.94 million viewers. Jojo Fletcher is the broken-hearted woman who had to walk away from The Bachelor in the last season`s Final Rose episode after finding out that Ben has confessed that she just isn`t “the one”. And it is the same Jojo Fletcher who`s now chosen as the Bachelorette for season 12. Although it’s not quite clear whether the series will be continued further because ABC has not made any formal announcement regarding its renewal, there are plenty of fans who want to see another round of men courting a woman in hopes of finding love — or at least getting their few seconds of fame on TV. If fans have their way, The Bachelorette Season 13 will return with a new batch of contenders and a whole lot of new drama.
