Ancient Aliens is an American documentary TV series airing on History and narrated by Robert Clotworthy. Prometheus Entertainment is behind the production and Kevin Burns is the executive producer. The series originally premiered in 2010 (pilot released in 2009), and the current 11th season debuted on May 6, 2016.
The series asks viewers to suspend all disbelief and give a chance to highly speculative theories that suggest, among other things, that Aleister Crowley, Nazi SS, sphinx, mummies, Grigori Rasputin all all tied to extraterrestrial visitors in some way. The current season opened with an episode where it`s claimed that structures found in Antarctica are also alien-related.
Criticism and renewal potential
The series is consistently criticized for promoting a far-fetched pseudo-historical approach, which does not prevent it from being a very popular program. The vast majority of the theories expounded in Ancient Aliens are not supported in any way by the scientific community and are conjured up to satisfy the voracious appetite of the audience for all things mystical and unknown. It`s also curious that the series is garnering ratings that are higher than the usual average for the truly scientific documentary series. Ancient Aliens is currently posting an average of over 1 million viewers per episode and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. History has not made any announcements regarding either a renewal or a cancelation of the series for season 12, so please stay tuned for relevant announcements.
